We get a lot of different types of questions about dieting and food. Many of you are wondering what diets pair well with waist training. We all know that eating a healthy and nutritious diet can help trim your waist, but with so many different diet plans to choose from it might seem overwhelming. We’ve talked to some of our customers and co-workers to see which plans have worked during their waist training and we’ll be sharing them here.

Ketogenic Diet

The Ketogenic Diet, or also called Keto for short, is a low carb high fat diet that is perfect for weight loss. While on this diet you drastically reduce your carb intake and increase your fat intake. This makes your body go into a state called ketosis, hence the name Keto. During ketosis your body becomes highly efficient in burning fat, which is perfect for trimming your waist and midsection.
Besides losing weight, the ketogenic diet has been shown to improve insulin in diabetic and prediabetic patients. Other studies have shown tremendous benefits and improvements in heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s, epilepsy, Parkinson’s, brain injuries and polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Do Eat: fatty fish, meat, eggs, cheese, nuts, butter/cream, nuts and seeds, oils, avocados, low carb fruits and veggies
Do Not Eat: sugary foods, grains/starches, beans, legumes, fruit (with the exception of berries), root vegetables, alcohol, unhealthy fats, sugar free diet foods

Atkins Diet

The Atkins diet is broken down into four phases. In the first phase you will strictly limit your carb in-take but you can eat proteins and fats, which is similar to the keto diet. Once you’re 15 pounds away from your goal weight you can move on to phase 2 by slowly increasing your carb intake to 25-50g a day. When you’re 10 pounds away from your goal weight you will move into phase 3 where you can introduce 50 to 80g of carbs into your diet. In this phase you’re seeing how many carbs you can eat in a day until you stop losing weight. Once you figure out the perfect balance you move on to phase 4 which is how you will continue to eat for the rest of your life.
Phase 1 Do Eat: Fatty fish, protein rich shellfish, meat, eggs, healthy fats/oils, small amounts of artificial sweetners, 12-15g net carbs of vegetables
Do Not Eat: sugary foods, grains/starches, pasta, white bread, sauces with sugar, soft drinks

South Beach

While the South Beach diet does focus on eating less carbs and more proteins and healthy fats, it is not as strict as the Ketogenic or the Atkins Diets. Because this difference followers of the South Beach plan feel that it is easier to maintain this lifestyle over a lifetime. This diet gives you a great balance of different foods, which can be easier for beginning dieters to follow. In the South Beach diet about 45 to 65% of your daily calories comes from carbs. The diet unlike Keto and Atkins also includes regular exercise into their diet plan.
Similar to the Atkins Diet, the South Beach diet is broken down into three phases. During the first two weeks you’re in phase 1 where you eliminate almost all carbs in your diet, and eat mainly lean proteins. Those proteins consists of seafood, poultry, lean beef, and soy products such as tofu. In phase 2 you start adding back some of the carbs you eliminated in phase 1 such as pasta, bread, and brown rice. In phase 3 you maintain what you ate in the last two phases and can eat everything in moderation.

 Raw Diet

Like the name suggests, the raw food diet excludes any food that has to be cooked. Focusing more on raw plant-based meals. There are 3 main types of the raw diet, the raw vegan, raw vegetarian, and raw omnivorous. In the raw vegan diet all animal products are eliminated, whereas in the vegetarian diet you can include eggs and milk. In the omnivorous diet on the other hand you can include animal products such as meat, eggs, and milk into your daily meals.

 Intermittent Fasting

Unlike the other diets discussed in this post, intermittent fasting doesn’t restrict what you can eat, but rather when you can eat. There are 3 popular methods to do intermittent fasting, and all of them help you find ways how to set you’re eating and fasting schedule. They are the 16/8, eat-stop-eat, and the 5:2 diet. In the 16/8 plan you skip breakfast and restrict your eating within an 8-hour time frame, fast for 16 hours then start all over again. Your schedule would look something like this: eat at 12pm-8pm, then fast till 12pm. In the eat-stop-eat method you skip eating in a 24-hour time period, and then eat again the next day. In the 5:2 plan you’ll only consume 500 calories a day two days a week, and the other days you eat normally.
